Our company's namesake, the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a thriving economic community. Greenwood, sometimes referred to as “Black Wall Street,” was created as a response to a discriminatory financial system that was used to segregate and denigrate African Americans on the basis of race. Greenwood was founded on the ideals of equal opportunity, individual liberty, and financial freedom.
Unfortunately, there were groups who resented the ideals that Greenwood was founded upon and this community was tragically burned to the ground in the Tulsa race massacre of 1921.
Greenwood Labs exists to restore the ethos of the Greenwood District, the spirit of financial freedom for all, and bring it to censorship-resistant financial infrastructure.
